Bureaucracy is often blamed for restricting individuals from completing their tasks at work in whatever way they choose, while overlooking its impact on the rest of the organization.
Not all bureaucracy is bad. It is a method of connecting everyone in the organization and ensuring that everyone is working for the company’s goals.
The bigger the company, the more bureaucracy is needed for it to function. Each human interaction is one more potential for variables, and the bureaucracy is trying to limit those variables.
There are limitations in organizations primarily around time, money, and space, and one individual cannot consume an outsized share if it is in the organization that negatively impacts the organization.
Finally, the value of such a large organization is leverage, but if the application of that leverage is not managed, it can be turned inward and lead the organization in a bad direction.
We are working together and need to think of it that way. We need to be careful trying to wage a silent battle against following bureaucracy to complete our job.
