Faster Processes Are Not Always Better

Each business uses standard processes to accomplish its many projects. Typically, alternative steps can be used to complete the project faster. Sometimes, the alternative steps are more efficient, and this alternative should be made the standard.

Sometimes, a project can be completed faster by moving activities up in queues or applying more labor hours. However, this should only be used in rare instances because of the added cost in labor hours, the negative impact on other items in the queue, and the added risk of using an unfamiliar process.

When you are asked to follow alternative methods to complete a project earlier, understand the type of alternative it is and be careful of others pushing you to regularly use the more costly and risky path.
