This is a continuation of my easier email series
The next step in easier email is to stop using your inbox as a to-do list. I know you have a ton of emails sitting there as a reminder or because the info is important. I am willing to bet that you have forgotten many of those emails at the bottom of that list and the time to take action is beyond due.
Also, you keep opening some of those emails trying to figure out what to do. When you forget, you open them again. This is a waste of time. You should only open an email once and do something.
Finally, the huge email list is creating mental clutter which is adding stress in your life. In the back of your mind you know there is something you need to do in with those emails but you are not sure what. You feel out of control of the situation.
Side note: do not create too many folders because it will have the same affect as a list of emails. I recommend that that you do not have more than 5 folders.
Great idea Josh and this is certainly something I struggle with. Going to give your suggestion a shot!
It is easy to lose track of things when they are at the bottom of the list. I amaze my coworkers with my inbox always being between 1 and 5 emails.
