How many of you are not happy with your life? Are you unhappy with your job, your house, your financial situation? Do you wish you had a better marriage? Do you wish that you were like the “lucky” people with money and happy lives? Sit down for this, this may be hard to take. It is your fault that you are unhappy. It is not your boss’s fault, not the government’s fault, and not your wife’s fault. You are solely responsible. I know a lot of you reading this will immediately try to argue with me and tell me I am wrong. I am not. If you believe I am wrong, please stop reading this, you are hopeless.
Are you still with me? If you are, then great; you are ready to take control of your life and start moving to where you want to be. First, by accepting that you are the cause of your life situation you are empowering yourself. If you believe that everything bad in your life is caused by someone else, you are giving up the ability to change your live. Also, you will never amount to anything because you will be tossed around aimlessly in the stormy sea of life waiting for someone to save you. Now that you have accepted your responsibility you can stop waiting for everybody else to save you. You can now take action to change your destiny.
First you need to decide where you want to be in life (goal setting, I mentioned in a previous post). You need to be thorough in deciding this; here are some questions to consider. What kind of relationship do you want to have with your wife and children, what kind of house do you want to have, where do you want to live (location), how much money do you want to make, how much do you want to have invested by the time you retire, do you want to get rid of your debt, how many children do you want to have, what is your ideal work situation, etc? There are many more questions you could ask yourself to figure out where you want to be. You need to outline every detail because when you change one aspect of your life you will change others. These are considered your long term life goals. Now you should follow the goal setting recommendations in my previous post where I discuss goal setting. Just a reminder, you must write these goals down for them to be effective. Also, just because they are written down they are not written in stone. I recommend that you look at your goals at least annually. This is to see if they need to be revised with your life changes (you need to look at your goals more often to make sure you are on track). Plus, as you age, your views on what you want in your life will change.
Now you have your goals in place it is time for you to take action. First, put a plan in place to reach your goals. Second, go learn what you need to reach your goals. Also gather information from many different points of view and sources. There is not one right answer for most situations; just stay within your comfort zone and with what you understand.
Now you are ready to aim your life where you want it to go.
